What is the big deal with compound movements?
What is a compound movement?
A compound movement is an exercise that uses multiple muscles throughout your body at the same time to complete the action.
An example would be squats or push-ups. These exercises are so beneficial for your body because they work more than one set of muscles at a time, which burns more calories. They also work on balance and core stabilization (think abs).
Next time you are performing a squat, slow down your pace and concentrate on all the muscles that are involved. Your legs, glutes, back, abs...if you raise your arms now your chest and shoulders are engaged too.
